Jonathan Wilson, PhD, LMFT

Mental Health Therapist

Jonathan loves that he gets to help people in need on a daily basis. He considers it a privilege every time a patient turns to him for help, and confides in him about their current struggles. His favorite part of his job is celebrating with a patient when he or she reaches a personal healthcare goal for themselves.

Now a certified Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Jonathan earned a BA in Psychology from Oklahoma Baptist University, a MS in Human Development and Family Science from Oklahoma State University, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Medical Family Therapy from East Carolina University. He spent six years teaching graduate courses in Marriage and Family Therapy, and has provided individual and relationship counseling in various outpatient mental health practices, as well as in an inpatient behavioral health unit of a hospital. He’s a published author (journal articles and several book chapters) on various topics including attachment, intimacy in relationships, and family therapy, and he has ongoing research interests in the area of intimate partner violence, family systems, attachment theory, and integrating medical and behavioral healthcare. Jonathan has also presented his research at multiple state and national conferences.

Jonathan is trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused-CBT, Mindfulness, and Prepare/Enrich for relationship counseling. He is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is used to treat a variety of trauma-based disorders and symptoms. EMDR can target and help change beliefs one has about themselves which are negatively impacting their lives and relationships. Jonathan considers himself to be a person-centered therapist who primarily uses a CBT approach to help clients identify harmful cognitive and emotional patterns that negatively influence their daily functioning. He wants his clients to feel empowered, motivated, and supported in their work with him so they can reach their full potential of their best selves. As an ally of the LGBT+ community, Jonathan works with individuals in any type of relationship including LGBT+ partnerships and alternative lifestyles. Much of his research experience involves the exploration of violence and aggression within intimate relationships.

Originally from Orange, Texas, Jonathan spends time away from work with his four sons, and enjoys traveling, fitness, cooking, music, and reading.
